Where the numbers come from

Every figure on EV Compared has a named source. Range is the official WLTP combined figure from the manufacturer's UK specification page, and where we quote a real-world figure we say whose testing it comes from. Prices are UK on-the-road list prices, checked on the date shown on the page. Charging prices come from the operators' own published tariffs. Grant, tax, VED and benefit-in-kind figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. Insurance groups come from the Association of British Insurers group ratings.

Where two credible sources disagree, we quote both and say which we lean on and why. Where a figure cannot be sourced, we leave it out rather than estimate it.

Reviews and scores

EV Compared reviews are data verdicts. Each model page states whether the verdict rests on a first-hand drive or on published specifications, pricing, independent range testing, reliability surveys and owner reports. We label the two clearly and never imply a car has been driven when it has not. A score out of ten is only shown where the page states an editorial verdict, and the reasoning behind the score is on the page.

Home charger reviews follow the same rule: specifications, price, installed cost, tariff compatibility, app quality and warranty are compared like for like, and the page says whether the unit was tested by us or assessed from documentation and installer feedback.

Independence

EV Compared takes no payment for editorial coverage. Manufacturers, charging networks, energy suppliers and dealers do not see copy before publication and cannot buy a place in a best-of list or a score in a review. Car makes, models, networks, tariffs and apps are named freely and compared on the merits.

Affiliate links and advertising

The site is funded by advertising and by affiliate commission on some links, for example to leasing brokers, charger retailers or energy tariffs. Where a page contains affiliate links it says so. Commission never changes which products we recommend or where they sit in a ranking.

Updates and dates

Every article shows a published date and, where the copy has changed materially, an updated date. We only move the updated date when figures, rankings or recommendations change, not for cosmetic edits. Price-led pages (tariff tables, lease deals, cheapest-car lists) are checked monthly; best-of lists quarterly; policy pages whenever the rules change.

Corrections

If a number looks wrong, tell us through the contact page. We check every report against the primary source and correct the page, and material corrections are noted on the page itself.

Who writes EV Compared

Articles are written and maintained by the EV Compared editorial team, whose working methods are described on the team page. Where a piece carries an individual byline, that person's page lists their background and their other work for the site.
