Quick answers

  • Lepas has confirmed the UK L6 EV with a 65kWh LFP battery, a 160kW (217PS) motor and up to 279 miles of WLTP range.
  • The L6 EV charges from 30 to 80% in about 22 minutes on a 120kW DC charger and reaches 62mph in 7.9 seconds.
  • UK pricing for the L6 EV has not been announced; some press coverage expects it to start from around £32,000, which is an unconfirmed estimate, not a Lepas figure.
  • The L8 plug-in hybrid SUV is priced from £34,900 (Essence) and £37,900 (Elevate), with first customer cars, including Founders Club orders, due from October.
  • Lepas says its UK network will pass 60 outlets by the end of 2026 and 90 by the end of 2027.

Lepas, the fourth Chery brand to reach Britain, has confirmed the full UK specification of its first electric car, the L6 EV: a 65kWh battery, 160kW motor and up to 279 miles of WLTP range (AM Online). The price has not been announced, so a family-SUV buyer cannot yet judge it against rivals. The plug-in hybrid L8 is already priced, from £34,900.

What is the Lepas L6 EV?

Both trims use a 65kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a front-mounted motor producing 160kW (217PS) and 275Nm. Lepas quotes 0 to 62mph in 7.9 seconds and a top speed of 111mph, with an 8-year/100,000-mile high-voltage battery warranty (AM Online). Autocar positions it as a Volkswagen ID.4 rival.

How much will it cost?

Nobody outside Lepas knows yet. Electrive reported that order books were open without a published price (electrive), while Lepas and other coverage said they would open in early Q4. Some press coverage expects the L6 to start from around £32,000, but we have found no Lepas statement behind that figure. Treat it as an estimate.

That matters because the Electric Car Grant has a £37,000 price cap. If the L6 lands near £32,000 it would sit under it. We will update the price, and whether the grant applies, once Lepas confirms it. Until then, any quoted price is before or after the grant only by assumption.

What does the L8 cost?

The L8 is a plug-in hybrid, so it is a different proposition from the L6. It starts at £34,900 for the Essence and £37,900 for the Elevate (Motoring Research). The Founders Club offer covered the first 500 qualifying retail L8 orders placed between 31 August and 30 September, with a refundable £99 deposit and £1,000 off the recommended price. Lepas said qualifying Founders Club cars would be among the first delivered to customers from October (AM Online).

Will you be able to see one?

Lepas says its network will pass 60 outlets by the end of 2026 and exceed 90 by the end of 2027, with Arnold Clark preparing seven sites and Stoneacre four, while Brindley opened the first showroom in Wolverhampton (AM Online). For a new brand, that is the main reassurance on servicing and after-sales. It does not tell you how the cars will hold their value, which is unknown for a marque with no used market yet.

How does it fit the Chinese brand wave?

Lepas joins a crowded field. Our guide to which Chinese EV brands are here covers the others, and Chery’s four brands outsold Volkswagen in September. For other cars due soon, see every new electric car launching.

A 279-mile claim from a 65kWh pack is respectable for the size, and 120kW charging is adequate rather than class-leading. The 22-minute 30 to 80% time is a claim, not an independent test. Our fastest charging electric cars ranking shows how far ahead the leaders are.

What this means for you

If you want a family EV and are tempted by the L6, wait for the price before paying any deposit, and check whether it falls under the £37,000 Electric Car Grant cap. If you need a car now, the L8 is priced and arriving, but it is a plug-in hybrid. Ask your nearest Lepas dealer about the warranty terms, servicing and what a refundable order involves.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
