Mercedes GLA electric: UK price from £45,400 and 406-mile range
The third-generation Mercedes GLA is electric-first, with UK prices from £45,400 on the road, up to 406 miles from the 250+ and 320kW charging. Here is what you get and how it compares with the Audi Q4 e-tron, BMW iX1 and Tesla Model Y.
Quick answers
- The electric Mercedes GLA starts from £45,400 on the road in the UK and has been available to order since July 2026.
- The UK range starts with the GLA 250+ (268bhp, up to 406 miles); the 349bhp GLA 350 4Matic manages up to 381 miles.
- Both versions charge at up to 320kW on an 800V DC charger, adding 168 miles in 10 minutes.
- The entry-level GLA 200 is not offered in the UK, and a hybrid GLA follows in early 2027.
- The Audi Q4 e-tron runs from £46,260 and the Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD costs £44,990, but the BMW iX1 eDrive20 Sport is now £33,315 on the road after the Electric Car Grant. The GLA is not on the grant list.
The new electric Mercedes GLA starts from £45,400 on the road in the UK, with up to 406 miles of range from the entry GLA 250+ (Irish News). It is a premium compact SUV aimed at the Audi Q4 e-tron and BMW iX1, it has been available to order since July 2026, and deliveries of the electric models begin in November 2026. The headline is the range, which is longer than the 383 miles quoted for a Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD.
What versions can you buy in the UK?
The UK range starts with the GLA 250+, because the entry-level GLA 200 is not being offered here. The two versions are:
| Version | Power | Drive | Range (up to) | 0-62mph |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GLA 250+ | 268bhp | Rear motor | 406 miles | 7.3 seconds |
| GLA 350 4Matic | 349bhp | Dual motor, four-wheel drive | 381 miles | 5.4 seconds |
Source: Irish News. Autocar quoted 408 miles at the car’s reveal, so expect minor differences between launch coverage and the final UK figure. EV Database lists the 250+ with an 85kWh usable battery, and The Car Expert gives the 350 the same 85kWh pack. Mild-hybrid GLAs follow in early 2027.
How much does the GLA cost?
The starting price is £45,400 on the road. Fleet News headlines it as from £45,500, so check the final figure when you request a quote. We have not found published UK prices for the GLA 350 4Matic, so we do not quote one. These are the starting prices of the rivals:
| Model | UK starting price |
|---|---|
| BMW iX1 eDrive20 Sport | £33,315 on the road after the £3,750 grant (£37,065 before) |
| Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD | £44,990 |
| Mercedes GLA 250+ | £45,400 on the road, no grant |
| Audi Q4 e-tron (2026 range) | £46,260 |
Sources: EV Powered for the GLA, Dick Lovett for the iX1, electrive for the Model Y and Parkers for the Q4 e-tron. The GLA, Model Y and Q4 figures are list prices before any grant. The iX1 qualifies for the full £3,750 Band 1 grant, which Dick Lovett applies to give £33,315 on the road; the £37,065 before-grant figure is our arithmetic. At £45,400 the GLA is above the £42,000 ceiling for any grant, and we have not seen it on the eligible list. See our Electric Car Grant guide.
How fast does it charge?
Both versions charge at up to 320kW on an 800V DC charger, which Mercedes says adds 168 miles in 10 minutes (Irish News). Few public chargers in the UK can deliver that much power, so your real stops will be limited by the charger, not the car. For rivals with a similar figure, see our fastest charging electric cars.
How does the GLA stack up against its rivals?
The GLA, Model Y and Q4 e-tron start within about £1,300 of each other, while the iX1 eDrive20 is much cheaper once its grant is applied, so the BMW is the budget choice and the others compete on range, charging and badge. The GLA 250+ claims up to 406 miles against 383 for the Model Y, and its 320kW peak charging rate is the figure to weigh against the Audi on your own quotes. The GLA 350 4Matic gives up 25 miles of range against the 250+ for 81bhp more and a 0-62mph time of 5.4 seconds, a trade most family buyers will not need to make.
The price table shows starting prices only. The Q4 e-tron range stretches to £68,660, so a well-equipped Audi can cost far more than the GLA entry price. The same applies to the Mercedes: specification and options will move the final figure, which is why we recommend comparing quotes for the same trim level rather than starting prices.
What else is new?
The GLA carries an illuminated grille and is the third generation of the GLA name, with the electric version launching first. Our list of new electric cars launching shows what else is due.
What this means for you
If you want a premium compact SUV for long motorway journeys, the GLA 250+ is the version to price up: its 406-mile range is the headline and the rear-motor car is the cheaper way in, as the 350 is the more powerful version. Compare it with the iX1 and Q4 on a like-for-like quote, including lease and company-car tax, and read our guide to the best long-range electric SUVs before you order. If you are a company-car driver, the benefit-in-kind guide shows how the tax compares.
How we test and where our numbers come from
Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
