The Omoda 4, a small SUV from Omoda, is due in the UK in the fourth quarter of 2026 with a self-charging hybrid, and a pure-electric version has been confirmed. Retail date, prices and trims have not been announced. It is reported to sit below the £25,915 Omoda 5, which would make it a possible budget option for drivers who want a small SUV without a plug.

What do we know about the Omoda 4?

What Car? describes it as a small SUV slotting just below the Omoda 5 and sharing its T1X platform. Early figures put it at about 4.42m long and 1.57m tall, though these are pending official UK homologation. It is aimed at cars such as the Renault Captur and Skoda Kamiq, and, in electric form, the Kia EV3 and Volvo EX30. Omoda announced the SHS-H version at Auto China in April 2026 (Evans Halshaw), and Omoda dealers already list it as coming soon (Glyn Hopkin).

How does the SHS-H hybrid work?

SHS-H is a full hybrid: a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine works with an electric motor and a small battery of about 1.8kWh. You never plug it in, as the battery recharges from the engine and braking. That is the same family of system as the larger Omoda 5, and it gives lower fuel use than a plain petrol car in town without any charging habit. It is not a plug-in, so it cannot run far on electricity alone. Our electric vs hybrid guide explains how the two compare.

What will the Omoda 4 cost?

Nobody has confirmed a UK price. The one reported anchor is that it will sit below the Omoda 5, which starts at £25,915. Earlier reports (Carwow) pointed to petrol from under £25,000 and an EV from under £30,000, but Omoda has not confirmed either figure, so treat them as estimates only.

The Kia EV3 price is a launch figure and may have changed. We have not listed a Renault Captur price because we could not confirm a current one. Our Kia EV3 review and EV3 against EX30 comparison cover that end of the market.

Where does it fit among Chinese brands?

Chinese brands are taking a growing share of UK sales, as our market share report shows. Our report on Chery Group’s September sales covers the group behind Omoda. A cheaper small SUV would widen that reach. For a wider look at what else is due, see every new electric car launching.

What this means for you

If you want a small SUV and prefer not to charge, the Omoda 4 hybrid is worth waiting for, but only if you can hold off until prices are announced. If you want an EV, there is no UK date or price yet, so do not plan around it. A newer brand also needs scrutiny of dealer coverage and warranty; our guide to new-brand risk lists what to check. Compare the final price with a Captur, EV3 or other cheap new EV before you commit.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
