Tesla delivery times and how ordering works in the UK

Tesla sells direct, quotes a delivery window rather than a date, and moves that window as stock arrives. Here is how long UK buyers have actually waited, and how the order process runs from order fee to handover.

Quick answers

  • On EV Compared's calculation from UK owner reports, most Model Y orders placed in October 2025 and January 2026 were first quoted delivery windows of about 5 to 9 weeks.
  • Two of the six UK Model Y orders we tracked from those reports later had their estimate pushed back to May, roughly 16 weeks or more after ordering, and one of those buyers cancelled.
  • Tesla's US order pages on 1 October 2026 showed the Model Y Premium and Performance arriving within about 9 weeks, but the entry Model Y at 9 to 17 weeks, a sign that the cheapest versions are the most heavily booked.
  • Tesla's 0% APR offer on the £37,990 Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive and £44,990 Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive requires an order by 31 December 2026 and delivery by 31 March 2027, a gap of about 13 weeks.
  • UK owners report that once Tesla assigns a VIN and registration the date is fairly firm, with handovers spread over two to three weeks after cars reach the delivery centre.
  • Tesla's Manchester Delivery Hub, commissioned in February 2026, is its largest UK handover site and delivered the company's 300,000th UK car in June 2026.

A factory-order Tesla in the UK usually takes about 5 to 9 weeks from order to handover, based on the windows most UK Model Y buyers were first quoted, but those windows can move, and some early 2026 orders slipped to around 16 weeks. A car from Tesla’s UK inventory can be quicker because it has already been built.

Tesla does not sell through dealers in the UK. You order direct, Tesla gives you an estimated delivery window rather than a fixed date, and the window firms up only once a specific car is matched to your order. This guide sets out how long UK buyers have actually waited, which versions tend to take longest, and each step from paying the order fee to driving away.

How long is the Tesla delivery time in the UK?

Tesla does not publish a UK lead-time table, so we worked one out from what UK owners were quoted. On the Tesla Motors Club forum, UK buyers posted their order dates and the delivery windows Tesla showed them between December 2025 and February 2026.

Method: days between the order date and the first and last day of the quoted delivery window, divided by 7 and rounded to the nearest week.

Order (UK owner report)OrderedWindow quotedWeeks from order
Model Y, town not given16 Oct 202522 Nov to 1 Dec 20255 to 7
Same order, revised16 Oct 202510 to 16 Dec 20258 to 9
Model Y Performance, Herefordshire23 Jan 20268 to 24 Mar 20266 to 9
Model Y Performance, Bournemouth24 Jan 202622 to 31 Mar 20268 to 9
Model Y, Milton Keynes29 Jan 202622 to 31 Mar 20267 to 9
Model Y, London11 Jan 2026Mid Feb, then May 2026About 5, then 16 or more
Model Y, Colchester11 Jan 2026Feb or Mar, then May or Jun 20263 to 11, then 16 to 24

Most first estimates landed between 5 and 9 weeks. But two of the six orders were later pushed to May, roughly 16 weeks or more after ordering, and the Colchester buyer cancelled. Even the order with the shortest first window moved back by about two weeks. These are self-reported orders, not a survey, so treat them as a guide to what Tesla quotes rather than a promise.

Which Tesla models take longest to arrive?

The cheapest versions tend to have the longest waits, because they attract the most orders. Tesla’s US order pages give the clearest recent snapshot, and while they are not UK quotes, they show where demand is heaviest.

Method: weeks from the date the window was checked to the start and end of the window shown, rounded to the nearest week.

Version (Tesla US order page)CheckedWindow shownWeeks from check
Model Y Premium1 Oct 2026Oct to Nov 2026Up to 9
Model Y Performance1 Oct 2026Oct to Nov 2026Up to 9
Model Y (entry)1 Oct 2026Dec 2026 to Jan 20279 to 17
Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive22 Sep 2026Jan to Mar 202714 to 27

Those windows come from Motor1 and Tesla North. UK supply is separate, so your quote may be shorter or longer. The useful lesson is to compare the window the UK configurator shows on the entry car with the Premium version before you commit, since the dearer car may arrive sooner.

How much does each Tesla cost to order?

These are Tesla UK list prices on 1 October 2026, as recorded by EV Industry News. In November 2026 Carwow still lists the Model Y from £44,990.

VersionModel 3Model Y
Rear-Wheel Drive£37,990£44,990
Premium Long Range RWD£44,990£49,990
Premium Long Range AWD£49,990£52,990
Performance£59,990£61,990

Two things affect what you pay beyond the list price. The Model Y Premium Long Range AWD and both Performance cars are above £50,000, so they pay the expensive car supplement of £440 a year in vehicle tax from the second year, according to GOV.UK. And no Tesla qualifies for the Electric Car Grant, as our guide to the Tesla Electric Car Grant question explains. How does ordering a Tesla work in the UK?

Ordering a Tesla takes a few minutes online, and the rest happens in the Tesla app and your Tesla Account.

  1. Configure the car. Choose the model, version, paint, wheels and interior on Tesla’s UK website. The configurator shows an estimated delivery window before you order.
  2. Pay the order fee. Tesla’s UK ordering page says you pay a one-time order fee when you order, whether you pay cash or use finance, and that it is usually non-refundable. Read the amount and terms on the payment screen.
  3. Sort finance and trade-in. If you are using Tesla’s finance, you apply through your Tesla Account. Our Tesla finance guide covers the current PCP examples. If you are trading in a car, you submit its details for a valuation in the same place.
  4. Wait for a match. Tesla matches your order to a car, usually while it is shipping. UK owners on the Tesla Motors Club forum report that the VIN and registration are assigned at this stage, and that the date is fairly firm from then on.
  5. Book the handover. Cars tend to reach the delivery centre near the start of the window, and handovers are then spread over two to three weeks depending on volume, according to the same owners.
  6. Pay the balance and collect. You settle the remaining cash price, or Tesla confirms the finance, before you take the car.

Where do you collect a new Tesla?

Most UK buyers collect from a Tesla delivery centre. The largest is the Manchester Delivery Hub, which Tesla commissioned in February 2026 and where it handed over its 300,000th UK car, a Model 3, in June 2026, according to Drive Tesla. Your Tesla Account shows which site your car is going to when you book.

Check the car carefully before you sign for it: paint, panel gaps, glass, wheels and the charge cable. Our first electric car checklist lists what else to look at.

Can you get a Tesla faster?

Yes, in two ways.

  • Buy from inventory. Tesla lists new cars that are already built or in transit on its UK inventory pages. Because the car exists, you skip the production queue, though you are limited to the specifications on offer.
  • Choose a less popular version. On recent order-page evidence, the Premium versions have shorter windows than the entry cars, at a higher price: £5,000 more for the Model Y Premium Long Range RWD than the Rear-Wheel Drive.

Should you order before the end of the year?

If you want 0% finance, order soon. Tesla’s 0% APR offer on the £37,990 Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive and the £44,990 Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive requires you to order and apply for finance by 31 December 2026 and take delivery by 31 March 2027, according to Tesla’s terms as reported by LivinintheUK.

Method: 31 December 2026 to 31 March 2027 is 90 days, or about 13 weeks.

That is comfortably longer than the 5 to 9 week first estimates most UK owners reported, but shorter than the 16 weeks or more that some slipped orders reached. An order in November gives you a wider margin. Company car drivers should also read our guide to Tesla company car tax, since the 4% benefit-in-kind rate for 2026/27 applies from the day the car is made available to you.

What this means for you

Treat the window in the configurator as Tesla’s best estimate, not a booking. Before you order, compare the windows for the version you want and the one above it, check the inventory pages for a matching car, and leave yourself slack if a deadline matters, such as the 0% finance cut-off or a lease ending on your current car. Once you have a VIN and registration in your Tesla Account, you can plan around the date.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 1 November 2026. How we work out our own figures.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a Tesla take to be delivered in the UK?

A factory-order Tesla in the UK typically takes about 5 to 9 weeks to arrive, based on the first estimates most UK owners were given when ordering a Model Y between October 2025 and January 2026. Some estimates later slipped to around 16 weeks. A car already in Tesla's UK inventory can arrive sooner because it does not need to be built.

How do I order a Tesla in the UK?

You order a Tesla in the UK online through the configurator on Tesla's UK website. You choose the model and options, pay a one-time order fee, then manage finance, any trade-in and the delivery booking through your Tesla Account.

Why has my Tesla delivery date changed?

Your Tesla delivery date changes because the estimate is a window based on expected production and shipping, not a date tied to a specific car. UK owners report the date becomes fairly firm only once Tesla matches you to a car and assigns a VIN and registration, usually while the car is in transit.

Is the Tesla order fee refundable in the UK?

Usually not. Tesla's UK support pages describe a one-time order fee paid when you order, whether you pay cash or use finance, which is generally non-refundable except in some third-party finance cases. Read the order terms on the payment screen before you pay.

Which Tesla is quickest to get?

In Tesla's US order pages in October 2026, the Model Y Premium and Performance had the shortest windows, within about 9 weeks, while the entry Model Y was 9 to 17 weeks. UK windows can differ, so compare the estimate the UK configurator shows for each version before you order.

Will a Tesla ordered now arrive in time for the 0% finance offer?

It should, if you order early. Tesla's 0% APR offer on the Model 3 and Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive requires an order by 31 December 2026 and delivery by 31 March 2027, so an order placed on the last day leaves about 13 weeks. Ordering in November leaves more margin if the window slips.
