Quick answers

  • One price tracker, EV Industry News, says the Model Y Standard rose £3,000 to £44,990 on 1 October 2026. We found no second source, so we do not treat it as confirmed.
  • The Model Y Standard launched at £41,990 in December 2025, and the Model Y Long Range RWD has been £44,990 since February 2026, so £44,990 is an existing price for a different car.
  • Model Y prices in widely cited listings: Standard £41,990, Long Range RWD £44,990, Premium Long Range RWD £48,990, Premium Long Range AWD £51,990 and Performance £61,990.
  • Model 3 prices cited: Standard £37,990, Premium Long Range RWD £44,990, Premium Long Range AWD £49,990 and Performance £59,990.
  • Every Model Y and Model 3 is above the £37,000 price cap for the Electric Car Grant, so these are prices before any grant.

Tesla’s UK prices have not been confirmed as rising in October 2026. A price tracker says the Model Y Standard went up £3,000 to £44,990 on 1 October, but we found no second source, and Honest John, Auto Express, Electrifying and electrive all give prices that contradict it (EV Industry News). This guide sets out the Model Y and Model 3 prices we could verify.

Is the reported Model Y price rise real?

Not as far as we can show. The £44,990 figure is already the price of the Model Y Long Range RWD, which electrive reported arriving in February 2026 at £3,000 above the Standard. The tracker may have recorded that car as the entry model, or Tesla may have changed a price that no other outlet has reported. We could not tell which, so treat the rise as unconfirmed and check Tesla’s UK configurator before ordering.

What does the Model Y cost?

VersionListed UK price
Standard£41,990
Long Range RWD£44,990
Premium Long Range RWD£48,990
Premium Long Range AWD£51,990
Performance£61,990

The Standard price comes from Honest John and Auto Express. The Premium and Performance prices appear in Electrifying and Rivervale. Some listings, including the tracker, show the Premium cars at £49,990 and £52,990, a £1,000 difference we could not resolve. All are list prices before options.

What does the Model 3 cost?

VersionListed UK price
Standard£37,990
Premium Long Range RWD£44,990
Premium Long Range AWD£49,990
Performance£59,990

Top Gear covers the Standard at £37,990 and puts the Premium Long Range £7,000 above it. The AWD and Performance figures come from trackers and listings, so they carry less weight than the Standard price. Our Tesla UK range guide covers both models in more depth.

What do you get for the extra £3,000?

The Model Y Standard is quoted at 314 miles of range, while the Long Range RWD is quoted at 383 miles (EV Fleet World). That is 69 miles more for £3,000, or about £43 for each extra mile. The Standard was also launched with a PCP figure of £299 a month (Electrifying), but finance offers change, so confirm the current terms with Tesla.

Does the Electric Car Grant apply?

No. The grant covers cars priced under £37,000, and the cheapest Model 3 and Model Y are both above that. For cars that do qualify, see our affordable EVs under the Electric Car Grant list.

How do the two models compare in sales?

September’s registrations show where buyers are going: 9,929 Model 3 against 5,946 Model Y (Eletric-vehicles.com). The September sales report has the volumes. For rivals see Model Y vs Skoda Enyaq and Model Y vs BMW iX1.

What this means for you

Build the car on Tesla’s UK site and note the price it shows for the entry Model Y. If it reads £41,990, the tracker is wrong or the change has not reached your order. If it reads £44,990, compare the Model Y with the Model 3 and with rivals at the same money. On finance, compare total cost across the whole term, not just the monthly figure.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
