Tesla Q3 2026 results: what they mean for UK buyers
Tesla delivered 10,567 fewer cars than a year earlier and earned less on each one, but ended the quarter with its largest order backlog in four years. That points to firm UK prices and longer waits rather than discounts.
Quick answers
- Tesla delivered 486,532 cars worldwide in Q3 2026, which on our sums is 10,567 fewer than the 497,099 of Q3 2025, a fall of 2.1%.
- Revenue was roughly flat at $28.05 billion, but operating income fell 56% to $718 million, an operating margin of about 2.6%.
- Tesla said it ended the quarter with the largest passenger car backlog in four years and that battery availability was the limiting factor on volumes.
- Deliveries exceeded production by 22,141 cars on our calculation, so Tesla ran down stock rather than building it up, which leaves fewer ready-to-go inventory cars.
- UK list prices on 1 November 2026 stand at £37,990 for the Model 3 and £44,990 for the Model Y, after the entry Model Y rose £3,000 in the autumn.
- Tesla's 0% APR offer on the Rear-Wheel Drive Model 3 and Model Y needs an order by 31 December 2026 and delivery by 31 March 2027.
- Tesla's global Supercharger network grew to 84,465 connectors, 14.4% more than a year earlier on our sums.
Tesla’s Q3 2026 results show a company selling slightly fewer cars at lower margins but with a full order book, so UK buyers should not expect price cuts. Expect list prices to hold at £37,990 for the Model 3 and £44,990 for the Model Y, and delivery windows to lengthen rather than shorten.
What did Tesla report for Q3 2026?
Tesla delivered 486,532 cars worldwide between July and September 2026, according to its delivery release on 2 October. The Model 3 and Model Y made up 478,237 of them. That beat the 461,974 analysts had expected, but it was below the record 497,099 of Q3 2025 (CNBC).
Our number: Tesla delivered 10,567 fewer cars than a year earlier (497,099 minus 486,532), a fall of 2.1% (10,567 divided by 497,099).
The financial results followed on 21 October. Tesla’s Q3 update puts revenue at $28.05 billion, almost unchanged on a year earlier, but operating income fell from $1,624 million to $718 million.

Why did Tesla’s profit fall?
Tesla blamed lower average selling prices and difficulty securing battery supply, alongside heavy spending on AI and its Optimus robot (CNBC). Its operating margin was 2.6% (Stock Titan), so on every $100 of sales Tesla kept about $2.60 as operating profit.
For car buyers, the lower average selling price matters most. Tesla said the fall was “inclusive of mix impact”, meaning buyers paid less per car on average partly because of which versions they chose. Automotive revenue fell 3% while deliveries fell 2.1%.
Will Tesla cut UK prices?
Probably not in the near term. Tesla said it “ended the quarter with the largest backlog for our passenger vehicles in four years” (Shacknews) and that battery availability, not demand, was “the limiting factor in increasing auto volumes”. A carmaker that cannot build enough cars has little reason to discount them.
UK prices have moved the other way. The entry Model Y rose £3,000, from £41,990 to £44,990, and was unchanged in October, according to the EV Industry News price tracker; Carwow also lists it from £44,990. The Model 3 Standard is £37,990. Our October price guide has every version.
| Model (UK list price, 1 November 2026) | Price |
|---|---|
| Model 3 Standard | £37,990 |
| Model Y Rear-Wheel Drive | £44,990 |
The best saving on offer is finance rather than price. Tesla UK’s 0% APR PCP runs at £299 a month for the Model 3 RWD and £349 for the Model Y RWD, after deposits of £5,600 and £6,850 (LivinintheUK). You must order by 31 December 2026 and take delivery by 31 March 2027.
Will delivery times get longer?
They are more likely to stretch than shrink. Tesla built 464,391 cars but delivered 486,532, so on our sums it sold 22,141 more cars than it made and ran down its stock. It ended the quarter with 11 days of supply, against 10 a year earlier.
Fewer stock cars means fewer quick handovers from inventory and more buyers waiting for factory builds. If you want the 0% APR deal, order well before December so your car arrives by the 31 March deadline. Our guide to Tesla delivery times in the UK explains how the estimates move.
Did the results say anything about the UK?
Not directly. Tesla does not split out UK sales in its quarterly results. The best UK guide is SMMT registration data: in September the Model 3 was Britain’s best-selling electric car with 9,929 registrations, and with 5,946 Model Y that made 15,875 Teslas, 16% of all EVs registered that month (Electrek). Our September sales report has the detail.
On driver assistance, the update said FSD (Supervised) was available in nine EU countries. In Europe Tesla now sells it as Tesla Assisted Driving. Musk said on the call he hoped for EU-wide approval “within a few months or by Q1”, but the UK is not on the list and it is not approved for use here. Our Europe tracker follows each approval.
What about Superchargers?
Tesla’s global network grew to 8,904 stations and 84,465 connectors, up from 7,753 and 73,817 a year earlier. On our sums that is 14.4% more connectors, which helps both Tesla drivers and the growing number of other EVs allowed on open sites. See our guide to Tesla Supercharger prices in the UK for what a session costs.
What this means for you
If you are buying a new Tesla, the results argue against waiting for a discount. Prices are firm, stock is thinner and the cheapest finance deal has a fixed delivery deadline.
