Tesla FSD in Europe: country-by-country approval tracker
Slovakia became the ninth country and Latvia the tenth in October 2026. Here is every approval with its date, where the big markets stand, and why none of it applies in Britain.
Quick answers
- Ten European countries allow Tesla Assisted Driving, the European name for FSD (Supervised), after Slovakia became the ninth on 16 October 2026 and Latvia the tenth on 26 October.
- Every approval rests on the provisional type approval the Dutch regulator RDW granted on 10 April 2026, which other EU states can recognise for their own roads.
- On our sums, the ten approved countries hold 64.4 million people, 14.3% of the EU population, against the 65% an EU-wide vote needs.
- An EU-wide approval needs at least 15 of the 27 member states, and the earliest vote is at the Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles meeting in December 2026.
- Germany, France, Italy and Spain have not approved the system; Germany and Italy back an EU-wide approval, while France and Sweden object to the speed offset feature.
- If the EU rejects the system, the Dutch approval becomes invalid after six months and the national permits built on it would lapse.
- The UK is not on Tesla's approved list, the Dutch approval does not apply in Great Britain, and the Vehicle Certification Agency has not begun type approval work on the system.
Ten European countries now allow Tesla Assisted Driving, the system Tesla sells in the US as Full Self-Driving (Supervised): Slovakia became the ninth on 16 October 2026 and Latvia the tenth on 26 October. The UK is not one of them, and no British approval process has started.
This tracker is updated monthly. It lists each approval with its date, the big markets that have not moved, and what has to happen before an EU-wide decision.
Which European countries have approved Tesla FSD?
Every approval traces back to the Netherlands. The Dutch regulator RDW granted a provisional type approval on 10 April 2026, and other EU states can recognise it for their own roads rather than wait for Brussels. The system steers, brakes and accelerates, but electrive reports that the driver must monitor the road continuously and be ready to take over.
| # | Country | Approved | Population (Eurostat, 1 Jan 2025) | Rollout on 1 November 2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Netherlands | 10 April 2026 | 18.04m | Active on HW4 cars |
| 2 | Lithuania | 20 May 2026 | 2.89m | Active on HW4 cars |
| 3 | Estonia | 29 May 2026 | 1.37m | Active on HW4 cars |
| 4 | Denmark | 9 June 2026 | 5.99m | Active on HW4 cars |
| 5 | Belgium | June 2026 | 11.90m | Active on HW4 cars |
| 6 | Slovenia | 7 September 2026 | 2.13m | Due to begin soon |
| 7 | Czechia | 21 September 2026 | 10.91m | Due to begin soon |
| 8 | Croatia | 29 September 2026 | 3.87m | Due to begin soon |
| 9 | Slovakia | 16 October 2026 | 5.42m | No date given |
| 10 | Latvia | 26 October 2026 | 1.86m | Not started |
| Total | 64.39m |
Dates come from Tesla Europe’s announcements as reported by Not a Tesla App and the Not an FSD Tracker country list updated on 30 October. Sources give Belgium as either 10 or 15 June, so we show the month only. Rollout status is from the same tracker.
Rollout begins with Hardware 4 cars running a European build of FSD v14, which Tesla has adjusted for local speed limits, lane-change rules and roundabouts. In the Netherlands, Not an FSD Tracker recorded a price of €99 a month on 8 October 2026.
How much of Europe can use it?
EV Compared calculation: the ten approved countries have 64.39 million people out of an EU total of 450.38 million (Eurostat, 1 January 2025), so 64.39 ÷ 450.38 = 14.3% of the EU population. Before Latvia joined, Slovakia’s approval as ninth country took the figure to 13.9%.
That is a long way short of the 65% an EU-wide vote needs. Adding Germany (83.58 million) would lift the total to 32.9%, and adding Italy (58.93 million) as well would reach 45.9%. Even with both, the approving bloc would still be about 86 million people short of the threshold, which is why France and Spain matter so much.
When is the EU vote?
December 2026 at the earliest. The Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles discussed the Dutch request on 6 October for 25 minutes without voting, and electrive reports that it does not reconvene until December. Passing needs a qualified majority: at least 15 of the 27 member states, together holding at least 65% of the EU population. We covered the delay in Tesla FSD EU vote slips to December.
The approvals so far are provisional. Danish officials said the system still needs European Commission approval, and Not a Tesla App reports that if the EU rejects it, the Dutch approval becomes invalid after six months and the national permits built on it lapse.
Where do Germany, France and the other big markets stand?
| Country | Position on 1 November 2026 |
|---|---|
| Germany | Backs EU-wide approval if Tesla renamed the system and caps the speed offset at 10% over the limit; no national approval |
| Italy | Transport minister Matteo Salvini backed swift EU approval on 29 October; no national approval |
| France | Opposed in current form; wants technical changes and road tests |
| Spain | Waiting for the EU decision; testing continues |
| Sweden | Asked the committee to remove the speed offset or vote against |
| Poland | Requires local testing; will not accept the Dutch approval automatically |
| Portugal | Will not recognise the Dutch approval; waiting for the EU framework |
| Romania | Road rules bar releasing the steering wheel |
| Greece | Plans a bill recognising the Dutch approval; no vote yet |
Positions are from the Not an FSD Tracker list and, for Italy, Tesla North. Tesla renamed the system after Germany’s objection; see why Tesla dropped the Full Self-Driving name. Germany’s 10% condition matters because the speed offset feature is the main sticking point for France and Sweden. Tesla has not confirmed it has applied the cap.
Outside the EU, Norway and Switzerland are not on Tesla’s approved list, according to Tesla Mag’s survey dated 27 October.
Is Tesla FSD approved in the UK?
No. The UK left the EU, so neither the Dutch approval nor a December vote in Brussels applies in Great Britain. Not an FSD Tracker reports that the Vehicle Certification Agency has not undertaken any type approval activity on the system, and Tesla Mag confirms the UK is not on Tesla’s list. Neither Tesla nor the Department for Transport has given a UK date.
On British roads today, Tesla drivers have Autopilot and the features in Tesla Assisted Driving Basic, the package formerly sold as Full Self-Driving Capability. The driver must supervise and stays legally responsible throughout. Our guide to Tesla Autopilot vs FSD in the UK explains what each tier does here, and the Automated Vehicles Act explainer covers how Britain will regulate genuinely automated cars.
What it means for UK buyers
- Do not pay extra for a Tesla expecting the European system to arrive in Britain soon. There is no UK process under way.
- If you are choosing between models, judge them on price, range and charging. Our which Tesla to buy guide compares the current UK range.
- Watch the December committee meeting. A yes vote would make an eventual UK application more likely, but it would not switch anything on here.
We will update this table each month as countries approve or roll out the system.
How we test and where our numbers come from
Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 1 November 2026. How we work out our own figures.
