New Dacia Spring targets sub-£18,000 price and 155-mile range
The second-generation Dacia Spring is due in early 2027 with a 27.5kWh LFP battery and up to 155 miles WLTP. Dacia expects every version to cost under £18,000 before incentives, but the price is not confirmed.
Quick answers
- Dacia expects every version of the second-generation Spring to cost under £18,000 before government incentives; this is an expected price, not a confirmed list price.
- The new Spring has a 27.5kWh LFP battery and up to 155 miles of WLTP range, against up to 140 miles for the current car.
- It is 3.85 metres long, 15cm longer and 18cm wider than the old car, with 337 litres of boot space.
- Dacia cut the price of the current Spring by £4,000 to £11,990 on the road in July 2026, from £15,990. This is a direct price cut; it replaces Dacia's earlier £3,750 grant offer.
- The new Spring goes on sale in early 2027, so the current car remains the cheaper buy for now.
Dacia expects every version of its second-generation Spring to be priced below £18,000 before government incentives, with up to 155 miles of WLTP range from a 27.5kWh LFP battery (AM Online). The price is an expectation rather than a confirmed list price. It matters because the Spring is the UK’s cheapest new car, and the new one is bigger and goes further, but is likely to cost more than the one on sale today.
What do we know about the new Spring?
The new car sits on a fresh Renault Group platform shared with the Renault Twingo and is due on sale in early 2027, with production moving to Novo Mesto in Slovenia (Fleet News). The 80hp motor makes 175Nm and the car reaches 62mph in 12.1 seconds, with a top speed of around 81mph (The EV Report). The quoted range is up to 155 miles on the WLTP cycle (WhichEV).

Sources: Fleet News, The EV Report, electrive. The current price is Dacia’s reduced on-the-road price; the new price is an expectation before any incentive.
The new car is 15cm longer and 18cm wider than the old one (Fleet News), so the extra space is a real change for passengers and luggage.
How does it compare with the current Spring?
The Spring is already on sale in the UK, and in July 2026 Dacia cut the price by £4,000 to £11,990 for the Expression, rising to £12,990 for the Extreme (electrive). The Expression was £15,990 before the cut, when Dacia offered its own £3,750 grant, which gave £12,240. The new £11,990 replaces that offer rather than adding to it. The Spring is made in China, so it does not qualify for the government’s Electric Car Grant, and Dacia’s grant was separate from it (The EV Report).
If the new car lands near the top of its expected range, the step up from today’s £11,990 would be about £6,000. A buyer would pay for 15 more miles of WLTP range and a larger, newer car. For city use that may not be worth it. Our cheapest new EVs guide tracks where the current car sits against rivals.
How does it compare with rivals?
The Leapmotor T03 starts at £15,995 before the grant, and £12,995 with it (What Car?). The Renault Twingo shares the Spring’s platform, and we cover its UK pricing in our Twingo E-Tech price report.
A sub-£18,000 expectation puts the new Spring in the territory of the bigger, longer-range small cars. For a driver who wants more than 155 miles, a larger supermini will do more for the money. For short urban trips, 155 miles is plenty: our small electric cars for city drivers guide explains how far a typical week goes.
Who is it for?
The Spring suits drivers who do mostly short urban trips and can charge at home. At 3.85 metres it stays easy to park, while the 337-litre boot is a practical step up for a weekly shop. With 155 miles of claimed range, motorway-heavy drivers will want a larger battery, and real-world range will be lower than the WLTP figure, particularly at 70mph in winter.
What is still unconfirmed?
- The final UK list price and trim structure.
- Whether the new Spring will qualify for a government or Dacia grant.
- The exact UK on-sale date beyond “early 2027”.
Treat the sub-£18,000 figure as Dacia’s expectation, not an offer.
What this means for you
If you want the cheapest new EV today, the current Spring at £11,990 is on sale now, and it is cheap for a reason: 140 miles of range and a small battery. If you can wait until 2027 and want more space and range, the new Spring will be worth a look, but wait for confirmed prices before you plan your budget.
If you are still deciding, the buy now or wait for cheaper models guide sets out how to weigh it, and the affordable EVs under the Electric Car Grant list shows what qualifies for government support.
How we test and where our numbers come from
Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications.
