Octopus Electroverse: public charging for Octopus EV tariff customers

One card and app for public charging across the UK and Europe, a discount for Octopus EV tariff customers, and when it is worth using.

Octopus Electroverse: public charging for Octopus EV tariff customers

Quick answers

  • Electroverse is Octopus's public charging card and app, covering chargers across the UK and Europe.
  • Octopus EV tariff customers get a discount on public charging through Electroverse: 8% when we checked.
  • Public charging costs far more per kWh than home charging on an EV tariff, so Electroverse is for when you are away from home.
  • Compare Electroverse prices with each network's own app; the cheapest route varies by network.

Even with cheap home charging, most drivers need public chargers sometimes. Octopus Electroverse is Octopus’s answer: one card and one app that work across a large number of networks in the UK and Europe.

What it is

  • A physical card you tap on the charger, and an app to find chargers, see prices and start sessions.
  • Covers many networks with a single account, so you do not need an app per network.
  • Billed in one place, rather than to separate accounts.

The discount for EV tariff customers

Octopus gives a discount on public charging through Electroverse to customers on its EV tariffs. When we checked, the Intelligent Octopus Go page described it as 8% off.

Keep it for when you need it

Public charging is far dearer than charging at home on an EV tariff. Zapmap’s index put average rapid and ultra-rapid pay-as-you-go prices at 79p/kWh in September 2026, roughly ten times Intelligent Octopus Go’s off-peak rate. A discount helps, but the best saving is to do most of your charging at home overnight. See cost to charge on Octopus.

Getting the best price

  • Check the price in the app before plugging in. Prices vary by network and sometimes by charger.
  • Compare with the network’s own app on routes you use often; some networks offer subscriptions that beat card prices for regular users.
  • Use slower destination chargers where you can: at a hotel or supermarket they are often cheaper than rapid chargers.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Tariff times, rules and rates come from Octopus Energy's own tariff pages and its public price API on the date shown. Off-peak rates quoted are national; day rates and standing charges vary by region, so check your postcode. EV Compared earns a referral reward if you switch through our Octopus links; it does not change what we write. Last checked 28 October 2026. How we work out our own figures.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be an Octopus customer to use Electroverse?

No. Anyone can use Electroverse, but Octopus's EV tariff customers get a discount on public charging.

Is Electroverse cheaper than paying the network directly?

It depends on the network. Some networks offer their own subscriptions or app prices that beat card prices. Check the price in the Electroverse app before you plug in.

How does Electroverse compare with other charging apps?

We compared it with Bonnet in our Octopus Electroverse vs Bonnet guide, which covers subscriptions and network coverage.
