The Aion UT, GAC’s second model in the UK, opened for UK orders in September with first deliveries due in October. It is priced from £28,950 with a 60kWh battery that gives up to 268 miles WLTP. It undercuts the larger Aion V SUV by £7,500 but is not cheap for a supermini: Auto Express points out it costs more than £3,000 above a Volkswagen ID. Polo. What you get for the money is a long equipment list and an eight-year ownership package.

What does the Aion UT cost?

Aion UT£28,950

UT with Premium Pack£30,150

What do you get as standard?

Standard equipment includes a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a 14.6-inch central touchscreen and a 360-degree surround-view camera. Performance is modest, with 0-62mph in 7.3 seconds from a 204PS motor. The 60kWh battery is rated at up to 268 miles WLTP.

What is the Great 8 Promise?

Every UT includes an eight-year warranty, eight years of servicing, eight years of roadside assistance and MOTs until the car is eight years old. For a new brand with a young UK network, that is a strong reassurance, and it removes most running-cost surprises for the first eight years bar tyres and charging.

How does it compare with rivals?

The UT is far dearer than the similarly sized Geely EX2 but goes further on a charge and carries more standard kit. Auto Express says it is larger than most rivals and closer in size to the Renault 4 than the Renault 5. If price is the priority, our list of electric cars under £30,000 covers the field.

How does it compare with the Aion V?

The UT sits below the Aion V, which opened UK pre-orders on 23 April 2026 at £36,450 with a 317-mile range (The EV Report). The UT is £7,500 cheaper and gives up 49 miles of claimed range. For buyers who do not need an SUV, it is the more affordable way into the brand, and it shares the same Great 8 Promise.

Where does the UT sit among Chinese rivals?

Chinese brands now take a large share of UK sales, and many of them compete under £30,000. Our overview of which Chinese EV brands are here shows how crowded that space is. Aion’s argument is that the UT offers more standard equipment than cheaper rivals, including a 360-degree camera and heated seats and steering wheel, rather than a lower price. Whether that is enough depends on how many buyers value kit and a long warranty over a lower monthly payment, and on how quickly Aion builds dealer coverage and service capacity.

Is the UT a family car?

Auto Express describes it as larger than most superminis it competes with, closer in size to the Renault 4 and MINI Aceman than to the Renault 5. The powered tailgate on the Premium Pack helps with luggage, and the panoramic roof adds light for passengers. Anyone carrying adults in the back or regular boot loads should see it in person before ordering.

How safe is the Aion UT?

Euro NCAP awarded the UT five stars under its 2026 protocols, with 66% for Safe Driving, 74% for Crash Avoidance, 91% for Crash Protection and 88% for Post-Crash Safety. Our Euro NCAP report on three Chinese EVs has the full comparison.

Does the UT get the Electric Car Grant?

Probably not. Transport minister Lilian Greenwood said the government does not expect cars assembled in China to be eligible, and the scheme also sets manufacturer environmental requirements. The UT is a Chinese brand model and we found it on no published eligible list, so treat the £28,950 as the real price unless the eligible models page shows otherwise.

What finance is on offer?

AION’s launch offer was a September-only 0% APR PCP from £349 a month, plus a £500 test-drive contribution (The EV Report). The offer was dated to September, so check with a dealer whether it has been extended before you rely on it.

What this means for you

The UT makes sense if you want range, equipment and a long warranty and are comfortable with a newer brand. It does not win on sticker price against the Geely EX2 or established superminis. Compare the monthly cost, not the headline figure, and see how Chinese brands are building their UK presence. Before ordering, check the latest Electric Car Grant eligible models, though we do not expect a discount.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
