Hyundai has opened European orders for the electric Staria, a nine-seat MPV with an 84kWh battery and up to 430km (about 267 miles) of WLTP range (Electrek). UK prices are not confirmed, but What Car? expects it on sale in late 2026 from around £50,000. For large families, taxi firms and minibus operators, it is the biggest electric people carrier on the horizon.

What has Hyundai confirmed?

The Staria Electric uses an 84kWh battery and a front-mounted motor of about 215bhp, with up to 430km (about 267 miles) of range in Europe (Electrek). Its 800V architecture allows a 10 to 80% charge in 20 minutes, and up to 1,303 litres of luggage space is quoted for the nine-seat version, according to Autocar India.

What Car? reports the car is planned for the UK as well as Europe. In Germany it comes in three trims, Trend, Prime and Calligraphy (Auto Bild).

TrimSeatsGerman price
TrendNine€57,450
PrimeNine€63,650
CalligraphySeven, with two second-row armchairs€66,950

Prices from Ecomento and Auto Bild reporting of German pricing. Trend and Prime are three-row nine-seaters and Calligraphy swaps that for seven seats.

What will it cost in the UK?

Nothing is official. What Car? estimates from £50,000, and German pricing suggests the UK range could stretch well beyond that for top trims. Carscoops says the Staria matches the ID. Buzz on price in Germany while offering more space (Carscoops). Nothing suggests the UK price will be reduced by the Electric Car Grant, which only covers cars up to £42,000, so treat the £50,000 estimate as a full price.

How does it compare with rivals?

Kia PV5 PassengerFrom £32,995Five at launch, seven later

The ID. Buzz LWB has an 86kWh battery and up to 291 miles of range, a little more than the 267 miles Hyundai quotes for Europe. What Car? quotes about 249 miles for the UK car, so UK range is still to be confirmed. The Staria’s case is seat count: nothing else on this list carries nine. The PV5 is far cheaper, but it is smaller and its seven-seat version is still to come. Our PV5 Passenger report has the detail, and our guide to seven-seat electric cars covers cheaper options for families that do not need nine places.

What is it like to live with on paper?

The front-motor layout and 84kWh battery put the Staria in the same territory as other large electric people carriers: sensible rather than sporty, with range figures that suit regional trips more than a single run from London to Edinburgh. The 800V system is the standout, because a 10 to 80% charge in 20 minutes on a compatible rapid charger keeps family stops short. A UK driver with a home wallbox can treat rapid charging as the exception, while taxi and minibus operators will rely on it daily and should watch tariffs closely. Real-world range with nine people and luggage on board will be lower than the WLTP figure, and we have not seen a UK towing rating. Our UK charging price coverage shows what that rapid top-up will cost at current network prices.

Who is it for?

Large families and multi-generational households are the obvious buyers. Taxi and private-hire firms and minibus operators may also look at it, since a nine-seater avoids the need for a diesel minibus. Operators who qualify for business tax treatment should read our guide to company cars and fleets, though classification of the UK version has not been announced.

What this means for you

Do not commit before Hyundai UK publishes prices and trims. If you need seven seats or fewer, the ID. Buzz LWB is available now and the PV5 is cheaper. If you need nine and want electric, the Staria is the first mainstream option, and its 20-minute rapid charge makes long family trips realistic. Ask your Hyundai dealer for a place on the order list once UK pricing is confirmed.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
