The Kia PV5 Passenger, a van-based electric MPV, now comes in a seven-seat version that starts at £36,995, with customer deliveries due from October. That is far below the electric SUVs that offer a third row, which matters for large families, but the seven-seater’s grant status was still unconfirmed when it launched. A related rival is covered in our Hyundai Staria Electric report. A conversion-ready version is covered in our Kia PV5 Chassis Cab report.
Prices below are Kia’s on-the-road figures and include no Electric Car Grant, because the seven-seater’s eligibility was unconfirmed. The Plug-in Van Grant does not apply to passenger models.
What does the seven-seat PV5 Passenger cost?
The seven-seater comes in three grades, including the new Elite (EV Powered, The EV Report).
| Grade | UK price |
|---|---|
| Essential | £36,995 |
| Plus | £40,275 |
| Elite | £41,975 |
Elite adds electric sliding doors, ventilated front seats, premium paint and upgraded safety kit (The EV Report). Kia’s own release covers the wider PV5 Passenger line-up (Kia UK Press Office).
When do deliveries start?
Orders opened on 8 June. Production was planned to begin in mid-July, with first customer deliveries from October (Electrifying). Orders for the Passenger and the short-wheelbase PV5 Cargo opened in June (electrive).
Battery, range and seating
The seven-seater is sold only with the larger 71kWh battery, which Kia says delivers more than 240 miles of range, with a 2-2-3 seating layout (What Car?). Real-world range will be lower than the quoted figure, so check how that fits your regular family trips.
What is the PV5 Passenger?
The PV5 is Kia’s electric van platform, and the Passenger is the people-carrier version built on it. It launched in the UK as a five-seater with a 1,320-litre luggage space, rising to 2,315 litres with the second row folded flat (Van Reviewer). That launch article was published when the five-seater first went on sale, at £32,995 for the Essential grade with the smaller battery, and said a seven-seat variant would follow later. Five-seat prices quoted since then vary between sources, so we have not listed a five-seat price ladder here; confirm current figures with Kia. The five-seater is also offered with a smaller battery; the seven-seater is not.
How does Elite change the picture?
Elite is the new top grade, and it is the version aimed at taxi and airport transfer buyers as well as families, according to Taxi Point. The gap between Essential and Elite is £4,980, and the sliding doors are the feature most likely to justify it if you do school runs in tight car parks. Plus sits £3,280 above Essential.
Does it qualify for the Electric Car Grant?
The five-seat PV5 Passenger qualifies for the Band Two £1,500 grant. Eligibility for the seven-seater was yet to be confirmed, and Kia said it would confirm later (The EV Report). We have not seen confirmation since. See our guide to which models are eligible for the current list.
How does it compare with other electric seven-seaters?
| Model | Starting price |
|---|---|
| Peugeot E-Rifter | Under £34,000 |
| Kia PV5 Passenger seven-seat | £36,995 |
| Volkswagen ID. Buzz seven-seat | £59,545 |
| Kia EV9 | £65,000 |
Rival figures are from the RAC’s seven-seater guide and similar round-ups; check current dealer prices. The PV5 undercuts the ID. Buzz by more than £22,000 and the EV9 by about £28,000, though it is a van-derived MPV rather than a premium SUV. Only the Peugeot E-Rifter, with a 199-mile official range, is cheaper. What this means for you
If you need seven seats on a budget, the PV5 is now a serious option, and the 71kWh battery gives more range than the cheapest alternative. Before you order, ask your dealer in writing whether the grant applies to your specific seven-seat car, as that could be worth £1,500.
