Electric performance cars 2027: Type 01, Torcal, AMG GT and i3 M60

Four electric performance cars matter to UK buyers in 2027, from a £47,925 BMW i3 range that gains an M60 to a 1,169hp Mercedes. Here is what each offers, what it costs and when you can get one.

Quick answers

  • The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 is the only 1,000hp-plus electric car on this list with UK prices published, from £159,870 with up to 1,169hp.
  • The Jaguar Type 01, revealed on 6 October, targets more than 1,000PS and up to 478 miles, with UK deliveries expected in the first half of 2027.
  • The Bentley Torcal starts at £173,330 with up to 888PS in Torcal S form, but production only begins in 2027.
  • BMW has confirmed an i3 M60 xDrive for 2027 with no UK price, while the standard i3 40 xDrive costs from £47,925.
  • Polestar has put the 6 sports car on ice, and Lotus's next sports car is a hybrid V8 due in 2028.

Four electric performance cars matter to UK buyers in 2027: the Jaguar Type 01, Bentley Torcal, BMW i3 M60 xDrive and Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door EV. Only the Mercedes has full UK pricing today, from £103,275, with the GT 63 reaching up to 1,169hp for £159,870. The rest are estimates or have no price yet, so what you can order now and what you must wait for are very different.

Prices are before options. None of these cars qualifies for the Electric Car Grant (the i3 40 xDrive at £47,925 is above the £42,000 cap), so prices before and after the grant are the same.

Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door EV: the one you can buy

The GT 53 costs £103,275, the GT 55 £120,095 and the GT 63 £159,870. All use a 106kWh battery, and the GT 63’s official range is 424 miles against 503 miles for the lighter GT 53 (Autocar). Mercedes claims charging of up to 600kW (Carwow). Our full Mercedes-AMG GT price guide covers the versions and the simulated engine sound.

Jaguar Type 01: the British challenger

Jaguar revealed the Type 01 in New York on 6 October. Its pre-reveal targets are a tri-motor layout with more than 1,000PS, more than 1,300Nm, up to 478 miles of WLTP range and 200 miles added in 15 minutes (Autocar). It is built in Solihull, with deliveries expected in the first half of 2027. The Type 01 undercuts the GT 63 on expected price and beats it on target range, but its figures are targets. See our Jaguar Type 01 report.

Bentley Torcal: electric luxury, not a sports car

The Torcal is a luxury SUV rather than a GT, but its figures belong here: 821PS, or up to 888PS in the Torcal S, with up to 375 miles of WLTP range and charging of up to 400kW (Just Auto). It starts at £173,330, and full production begins at Crewe in 2027. Read the Bentley Torcal price and range report.

BMW i3 M60 xDrive: performance at a lower price

BMW’s Neue Klasse i3 already costs from £47,925 in 40 xDrive form, and an M Performance i3 M60 xDrive joins the range in 2027 (Electrek). BMW has not announced a UK price or power for the M60. It is likely to be the most affordable car on this page, but until BMW publishes the figures that is a judgement, not a number. Our guide to 2027 electric cars tracks the wider list.

Who is missing?

Two sporting names will not arrive as EVs. Polestar has put the 6 on ice to focus on the 7 and the next-generation 2. Lotus is shifting away from all-electric (Autoblog), and its next sports car, the Type 135 due in 2028, is reported as a hybrid V8. Our most anticipated electric cars page covers the year’s mainstream launches.

How do they compare on price and timing?

The spread is wide. The BMW i3 range starts at £47,925, the Mercedes at £103,275 and the Torcal at £173,330, so the cheapest car on this page costs about a quarter of the dearest. Timing is just as uneven: the Mercedes is on sale now, the Jaguar is expected in the first half of 2027, the Torcal enters production in 2027 with no UK delivery month confirmed, and the i3 M60 xDrive has only a year.

The Jaguar and Mercedes are the direct pairing, with the Type 01 targeting more than 1,000PS against the GT 63’s up to 1,169hp. The Bentley sits apart as an SUV, and the BMW is a different price class altogether. If you need a car before summer 2027, only one of the four is a real option.

What this means for you

If you want a fast electric car in 2027 and have £100,000 or more, the AMG GT is the only one you can price and order today. Waiting for the Type 01 makes sense if you prefer a British-built car and can accept estimates until Jaguar publishes a UK price list. The Torcal suits buyers who want Bentley luxury rather than outright pace.

If your budget is closer to £50,000, watch for the BMW i3 M60 xDrive price. Treat every manufacturer figure on this page as a claim until independent UK road tests confirm real-world range and charging speed.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
