Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, its first new production electric car, in New York on 6 October 2026. It is a four-door GT with three motors, more than 1,000PS and a targeted range of up to 478 miles, and UK pricing is expected to start at about £120,000. For UK drivers the question is whether a British-built rival can take on the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door EV and Porsche Taycan at the top of the market.
The figures below are the specification Jaguar gave before the reveal, so check them against Jaguar’s own release as UK details are confirmed (Autocar).
What has Jaguar revealed?
The Type 01 uses a tri-motor layout producing more than 1,000PS and more than 1,300Nm of torque, which is above 986hp. It is the first car on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture and is built at JLR’s Solihull factory (What Car?). The battery is expected to be about 120kWh.
| Jaguar Type 01 | Figure (Jaguar target) |
|---|---|
| Power | More than 1,000PS |
| Torque | More than 1,300Nm |
| WLTP range | Up to 770km (478 miles) |
| EPA range | 430 miles |
| Charging | 321km (200 miles) in 15 minutes |
| Battery | About 120kWh |
The interior was shown in August, built around a central spine that creates separate seating zones (The Next Web).
What will the Type 01 cost in the UK?
Reports put pricing at about £120,000 to more than £150,000, while one report says about £100,000. None of that is a confirmed UK price list. We would read it as a range driven by personalisation: Jaguar is aiming at a low-volume, high-value buyer.
Orders are expected to open in the second half of 2026, with first deliveries in the first half of 2027 (What Car?). These are estimated list prices.
How does it compare with the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door EV?
The closest rival on power is the Mercedes-AMG GT 63. It is priced from £159,870 in the UK, with up to 1,169hp from its 106kWh battery. The range starts lower, at £103,275 for the GT 53, which raises official range from 424 to 503 miles (Autocar). Mercedes claims DC charging at up to 600kW, recovering up to 332 miles in 10 minutes in ideal conditions (Carwow). Our Mercedes-AMG GT electric price guide has the full UK line-up. We compare both with other upcoming rivals in our guide to electric performance cars coming in 2027.
| Jaguar Type 01 | Mercedes-AMG GT 63 | |
|---|---|---|
| Power | More than 1,000PS | Up to 1,169hp |
| Battery | About 120kWh | 106kWh |
| Range | Up to 478 miles (target) | 424 miles (GT 63) |
| UK price | About £120,000 to £150,000+ (estimate) | From £159,870 |
On these numbers the Jaguar targets more range from a bigger battery, while the Mercedes wins on claimed charging power. Jaguar’s 200 miles in 15 minutes is a target, and Mercedes’ 10-minute figure is for ideal conditions, so they are not like-for-like.
Why this car matters for Jaguar
The Type 01 is the car that has to prove Jaguar’s switch to all-electric. It arrives as the brand restructures, which we covered in our JLR job cuts report. It also joins a crowded field of electric launches, listed in our guide to every new electric car launching and our most anticipated electric cars. Next week’s Paris Motor Show brings more launches in the same part of the market.
What this means for you
If you are considering a car at this level, you can wait: UK deliveries are not expected until the first half of 2027, so there is time to see final UK prices and a proper road test. Ask Jaguar for the confirmed price, battery size and charging curve before you place a deposit, because the headline numbers are targets. If you want a car now, the Mercedes-AMG GT is the one with UK prices published.
How we test and where our numbers come from
Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.
