Nio Firefly UK launch: price, range and what we know

Nio has said its right-hand-drive Firefly will reach Britain in 2026, but with the fourth quarter under way there is still no UK price or on-sale date. Here is what is confirmed and how it compares with the Renault 5.

Quick answers

  • Nio began mass production of the right-hand-drive Firefly on 18 November 2025, with the UK named as a 2026 market after Singapore.
  • The Firefly has a 41kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, a 105kW rear motor and a claimed WLTP range of 205 miles.
  • UK pricing has not been confirmed; in the Netherlands the left-hand-drive car starts at €29,900, about £26,000.
  • The 2027 Renault 5 52kWh 150hp claims up to 259 miles WLTP, 54 more than the Firefly, and costs £23,945 for the techno+ after the £3,750 Electric Car Grant.
  • With under three months of 2026 left, a UK launch this year is still stated intent, not a dated plan.

Nio has confirmed that its small Firefly electric hatchback will reach the UK in 2026, but with October under way it has published neither a UK price nor an on-sale date. What is firm is the hardware: a 41kWh battery and a claimed 205 miles of WLTP range. For UK drivers the question is whether a premium-feeling small EV can undercut the Renault 5.

What has Nio confirmed?

Nio said the right-hand-drive Firefly would be sold in the UK in 2026 (Autocar). Mass production of the right-hand-drive car began on 18 November 2025, with the first units going to Singapore and sales in Thailand and the UK to follow in 2026 (CarNewsChina).

That is the whole of the official UK position. Nio has not named a UK importer, dealer plan or launch month in anything we found, so “2026” has not become a date. The Firefly is sold as a separate brand from Nio’s larger cars.

Nio Firefly specifications

The Firefly is rear-wheel drive with a 41kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and a 105kW motor, about 143PS (EV Powered). Claimed WLTP range is 330km, or 205 miles.

How much will the Firefly cost in the UK?

Nobody has said. The nearest guide is the Netherlands, where the left-hand-drive car goes on sale from €29,900, about £26,000 at recent exchange rates (What Car?). A converted euro price is only a guide: UK pricing depends on import costs, trim choice and whether the car qualifies for the Electric Car Grant. The grant is £3,750 for Band 1 cars up to £37,000 and £1,500 for Band 2 cars up to £42,000, and China-built cars are not eligible, so a Firefly price would probably be before any grant. Our Electric Car Grant eligibility list shows which models qualify today.

Has the Firefly’s European rollout slipped?

Yes, earlier. In April 2025 Nio said the Firefly’s European launch would move to the third quarter, after it underestimated the work of building sales and service networks (TimesLIVE). That network problem matters in Britain too, where a new brand needs dealers and servicing before customers will trust it. Our guide to Chinese EV brands in the UK covers who has already built that.

How does the Firefly compare with the Renault 5?

The Renault 5 is the car Nio is aiming at. After the 2027 model-year update the 52kWh 150hp version claims up to 259 miles WLTP. The techno+ costs £23,945 on the road and the iconic five+ £25,945, both after the £3,750 Electric Car Grant (The EV Report). Our Renault 5 2027 update has the full price list.

PriceUK not confirmed; €29,900 (about £26,000) in the Netherlands, no grant expected£23,945 for techno+ after the £3,750 grant

On paper the Renault has the longer range and, after the grant, a lower price. The Firefly will need a lower UK price or standout equipment to win. See our Renault 5 against Citroen e-C3 comparison for the incumbent’s strengths, and small electric cars for city drivers for alternatives.

What this means for you

If you are shopping for a small EV now, do not wait for the Firefly. There is no price, no dealer list and no delivery date, and the Renault 5 and others are available today. Our most anticipated electric cars page tracks launches that have firm dates.

If the Firefly appeals, watch for three things: a UK price at or below the Dutch figure, Electric Car Grant eligibility, and a named dealer or servicing partner. Until Nio confirms those, treat its UK arrival as intent, not a plan you can order against.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

When will the Nio Firefly go on sale in the UK?

Nio has said the Firefly will arrive in the UK in 2026, but no on-sale date has been published. Right-hand-drive production started in November 2025, with Singapore receiving the first cars.

How much will the Nio Firefly cost in the UK?

UK pricing is unconfirmed. In the Netherlands the left-hand-drive car starts at €29,900, about £26,000 at recent exchange rates, which is the best available guide. The car is built in China, so we would not expect it to qualify for the Electric Car Grant.

What is the Nio Firefly's range?

Nio claims 330km, or 205 miles, on the WLTP cycle from a 41kWh lithium iron phosphate battery feeding a 105kW rear motor.

Which cars will the Nio Firefly rival?

Coverage names the Renault 5 as its main target, and it is also positioned against the Mini and, in Europe, the Volkswagen ID.2 and Hyundai Inster.
