Leapmotor B03: Renault 5 rival expected in UK in early 2027

Leapmotor's B03 electric supermini is due its European premiere at the Paris Motor Show this month, with UK sales expected in the first half of 2027. The price is not confirmed, but it should sit well below £29,000.

Quick answers

  • The Leapmotor B03 is a small electric hatchback aimed at the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID. Polo, with a European premiere scheduled for the Paris Motor Show, which opens to the press on 12 October.
  • Leapmotor claims up to 242 miles of WLTP range, and the Chinese-market car pairs its battery with a 121bhp front motor.
  • UK sales are expected in the first half of 2027, shortly after the B03X crossover, which costs from £26,995 after Leapmotor's £1,500 Leap-Grant.
  • No UK price is confirmed. The B03 is expected to slot between the T03 (£15,995 list price) and the B05 (£30,495 list price), suggesting a price in the low £20,000s.
  • The Renault 5 starts from £21,495 after the Electric Car Grant, so the B03 will need to undercut that or offer more car for the money.

Leapmotor’s B03, a small electric hatchback built to take on the Renault 5 and Volkswagen ID. Polo, is expected to reach UK buyers in the first half of 2027 (EV Powered). Leapmotor claims up to 242 miles of WLTP range, and the price, though unconfirmed, is expected to land in the low £20,000s. For UK drivers, that points to another Chinese challenger in the busiest and most price-sensitive part of the market.

What is the Leapmotor B03?

The B03 is a B-segment electric hatchback and a sibling to the B03X compact SUV we covered in our Leapmotor B03X UK price report. It measures 4,175mm long, 1,790mm wide and 1,560mm tall, which makes it 25cm longer, 2cm wider and 6cm taller than the Renault 5 (EV Powered).

Leapmotor says the range will reach 242 miles on the WLTP test. If the UK car follows the Chinese-market specification, that battery feeds a 121bhp motor driving the front wheels. We have not seen a confirmed UK specification, so battery size, trims and equipment remain open.

When does the B03 arrive?

What Car? reported that the B03 would be unveiled in October. The European premiere is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show, which opens to the press on 12 October and to the public on 13 October (Wikipedia). Our Paris Motor Show 2026 guide covers what else is due there.

UK sales are expected in the first half of 2027, shortly after the B03X. Leapmotor has not announced a UK date.

How much will it cost?

There is no UK price. Reports say the B03 will sit between the B05 and the T03 city car in Leapmotor’s range, which suggests the low £20,000s (EV Powered). For reference, the T03 lists from £15,995 and the B05 from £30,495, both before Leapmotor’s Leap-Grant discounts. Our new electric cars 2027 tracker lists it among the cheapest arrivals, and none of those prices is official.

One caution is the grant. The B03X is priced at £26,995 after Leapmotor’s own £1,500 Leap-Grant, and the government Electric Car Grant does not apply to Leapmotor models (Parkers). When a B03 price arrives, check whether it is before or after any Leap-Grant discount.

How does it compare with the Renault 5?

The Renault 5 sets the price to beat. These are its UK prices after the Electric Car Grant, with the grant worth £1,500 on the 40kWh car and £3,750 on the 52kWh versions (Parkers).

ModelUK priceNotes
Renault 5 Evolution£21,49540kWh, after the £1,500 grant
Renault 5 Techno+£23,94552kWh, 150hp, after the £3,750 grant
Renault 5 Iconic Five+£25,94552kWh, 150hp, after the £3,750 grant
Leapmotor B03Not confirmedUp to 242 miles WLTP, expected low £20,000s

The B03 does not need to be cheaper on paper to be competitive, because the Renault 5 Techno+ with a bigger battery costs £23,945. A B03 near £20,000 would undercut the cheapest 5. A price in the mid £20,000s would put it against the Renault 5 and, as our Renault 5 2027 update shows, a car that is still evolving. The B03’s larger body is its other argument, though we have no confirmed space figures yet.

Where does it fit in the price race?

The B03 will compete with more than the 5. The Volkswagen ID. Polo is named as a target, and our sub-£20,000 electric cars guide tracks the cheapest models due. Leapmotor’s own B03X starts £2,750 above the Kia EV2’s £24,245 and £2,045 above the Skoda Epiq’s £24,950, as covered in our B03X report, so Leapmotor is not always the cheapest in its class. The B03 needs to be, if it is to justify the Renault 5 comparison.

What this means for you

If you are shopping for a small EV today, there is no reason to wait for the B03 unless you can hold off until mid 2027. The Renault 5 and other rivals are on sale now, with prices you can check.

If you can wait, watch for three things after the Paris premiere: the UK price and whether it is quoted before or after any Leap-Grant, the battery size behind the 242-mile claim, and delivery dates. Our buy now or wait guide covers the trade-offs. Until Leapmotor publishes UK pricing, treat every figure above as an estimate.

How we test and where our numbers come from

Range figures are official WLTP combined values taken from manufacturer UK specification pages, with real-world estimates drawn from independent comparative testing. Prices are UK list prices at the time of the latest update. Tax, grant and charging-scheme figures come from GOV.UK and HMRC publications. We re-check every guide when pricing, specification or policy changes. Last checked 6 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

When will the Leapmotor B03 go on sale in the UK?

It is expected in the first half of 2027, shortly after the B03X. Leapmotor has not confirmed a UK date, and the European premiere is scheduled for the Paris Motor Show, which runs from 12 to 18 October 2026.

How much will the Leapmotor B03 cost in the UK?

The price is not confirmed. Reports place it between the T03 city car (£15,995 list price) and the B05 (£30,495 list price), which suggests the low £20,000s. Treat any figure as an estimate until Leapmotor publishes UK pricing.

What is the Leapmotor B03's range?

Leapmotor says it will return up to 242 miles on the WLTP test. If the UK car follows the Chinese-market specification, a 121bhp motor drives the front wheels.

How big is the Leapmotor B03?

It is 4,175mm long, 1,790mm wide and 1,560mm tall, which makes it 25cm longer, 2cm wider and 6cm taller than the Renault 5.

Will the Electric Car Grant apply to the Leapmotor B03?

We expect not. The Electric Car Grant does not apply to Leapmotor models, and the B03X is priced after Leapmotor's own £1,500 Leap-Grant. Whether the B03 gets the same discount has not been confirmed.
